L’esplanade, in the heart of Louvain-la-Neuve, is an urban concept in which the city hosts a shopping centre with 95 shops and a new pedestrian shopping street, rue Charlemagne, lined with quality housing. This is the outer extension of the shopping centre, with more than 30 shops and a cinema complex. It’s a great way to turn shopping into a pleasant, friendly getaway.

L’esplanade helps make this university city a major attraction for all the region’s inhabitants.

The three-storey shopping centre is partly built over the SNCB/NMBS station and the city’s ring road.

Parking spaces were built under the new housing as well as a three-storey underground car park, in addition to the shopping centre’s existing parking facilities. The latter were refurbished in the framework of the project, bringing the total to 6,000 parking spaces.

Pedestrians can use the wide vertical and horizontal walkways, which enhance mobility in the city while also harmoniously ensuring mobility for the disabled.
