Eco-Village de la Fontaine Saint-Jean in Engis

The project was tendered by the Municipal Building Authority of Engis and awarded to Belfius Immo. The contract comprised the promotion of works and services for the design, construction and promotion of a sustainable residential area on a site known as « Le Crucifix » à Hermalle-sous-Huy.

More specifically, the project involved the construction of various roads and utilities, the construction of 153 dwellings of various sizes, with 1 to 3 bedrooms and the construction of a nursery for 21 children.

The project was designed in compliance with the principles of sustainable development:

  • Economic aspect: Working local materials and builders, bioclimatic architecture to achieve ” low energy ” thermal performance. The concept was designed in such a way that accessible housing was also included in the project.
  • Ecological aspect : Rational use of the land, creation of common and private green areas, creation of shared roads, use of an innovative material such as ” concrete-wood “, use of local industries, etc.
  • Social aspect : Creation of small and medium-sized dwellings (for young couples, singles, senior citizens, persons with reduced mobility…) and larger dwellings (large or newly composed families) to ensure a good social mix, to respond to demographic change and to ensure the district’s sustainability.
